First Data Protection Prison Sentence!

For anyone who was wondering if they should bother with GDPR the ICO have just increased the stakes!


ALL EMPLOYERS AND EMPLOYEES SHOULD TAKE NOTE!


Having announced recently they are actively seeking people who have failed to register for Data Protection, the ICO have now decided to pursue offenders with Criminal Laws outside the Data Protection Act.


Using Computer Misuse Act powers which have stronger sentencing possibilities than the Data Protection act they have secured a Prison term of 6 months to an employee who accessed data they were not supposed to have!


Mike Shaw the ICO Enforcement Group Manager said "Members of the public and organizations can be assured that we will push the boundaries and use any tool at our disposal to protect their rights."
