S.H.I.E.L.D. Ambassadors Required
In 2018, We created Transition Law S.H.I.E.L.D. the Business and Consumer Support and Accreditation Programme to Provide Recognition for GDPR Compliant Businesses across the UK.
Due to the success of the Programme we need additional S.H.I.E.L.D. Ambassadors to promote the benefits of S.H.I.E.L.D. to businesses in their local areas. Full details are below.
GDPR and Data Protection Compliance is a legal requirement for all businesses.
In the same way that Vehicle Insurance is not optional, all businesses of any size must be compliant with GDPR and be able to demonstrate they are to the Information Commissioners Office (ICO), the public and their Suppliers and Trading Partners in Business.
Some business owners are surprised when a supplier or a customer asks them if they are GDPR compliant but they shouldn’t be. The Supplier or Contractor has a legal duty to make the enquiry and for a customer they are simply showing they are smart enough not to give their money or personal data to a business that can’t be trusted with it!
Transition Law developed S.H.I.E.L.D. to allow compliant businesses to demonstrate their compliant status, find other compliant businesses to trade with and give the Public reassurance that a S.H.I.E.L.D. Holder can be trusted with their Personal data
What is the Ambassadors Role?
The Ambassadors are people who work in their local areas promoting the benefits of S.H.I.E.L.D. Membership to business owners. Remember, GDPR Compliance is compulsory and the penalties for non compliance are extremely severe, they include prosecution, large fines, Director Disqualification and adverse Publicity on the Regulators website.
Ambassadors build on the existing network of contacts Transition Law has built up. We can provide you with warm introductions to Local and District councils, Council Growth Hubs, Chambers of Commerce, Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) Business Innovation Centres (BICs) and many other Business Networking organisations and events.
We have also supplied an approved 'Introduction to GDPR Course' for the Open College Network which promotes SHIELD membership and generates interest in the programme nationally for our Ambassadors.
Ambassadors can also increase their reach and income by working with approved Brand Influencers. See HERE
Ambassadors organise Workshops and speak to existing and new clients at various events, regarding Data Protection, the latest news from the Regulator and Membership of the S.H.I.E.L.D. programme.
Ambassadors Recommend & Connect SHIELD Holders to work with other compliant businesses across the network.
It is the Ambassador's primary role to ensure all the businesses in their area become aware of their responsibility to be compliant under the GDPR and other Data Protection Legislation.
The role is ideal for someone with experience of speaking with people at Business owner and Board level, confident communicators, who are at ease with explaining complicated subjects in straightforward terms. Our existing Ambassadors have been drawn from many previous walks of life. We have Business advisors, ex Military personnel, Marketing professionals and even a Priest.
They all have something in common, which is a desire to Mentor and advise business people, giving excellent customer service and ensuring their clients benefit from greater knowledge and support about Data Protection.
What Training do Ambassadors Receive?
All Ambassadors attend their Introductory training at Transition Law Head Office. There is no need for any previous Legal training or experience, as your introductory training will teach you everything you need to know.
Ambassador training is delivered over two consecutive weekends (four days in total) allowing the student Ambassador time for reflection and additional study between classroom sessions. The training is designed to fit into the schedule of someone who is already working. The flexibility of being an Ambassador allows for full and part time involvement.
Following successful completion of the course, a new Ambassador is allocated a legally trained Mentor who will be available to answer questions and provide practical help in the commencement of their new role.
Transition Law offers a Complete, End to End Solution for GDPR & Data Protection compliance for SMEs. Ambassadors are trained in all aspects of the process and they become familiar with a tried and tested methodology for explaining the necessity and the benefits of S.H.I.E.L.D. Membership.
It goes without saying that many businesses are not compliant with the new Data Protection Regulations. Consequently, Ambassadors need to be familiar with the entire compliance process, so they can recognise a non compliant business situation. Ambassadors are trained to complete introductory Data Protection assessments of a business and advise on appropriate remedial measures where necessary.

1) The SHIELD programme is Free of Charge to any compliant business. It can be used to demonstrate GDPR
compliance and set them apart from a non-compliant competitor. Drawing attention to their SHIELD
membership will greatly improve public confidence in them as a business and create opportunities for new
business which is only available to compliant firms.
2) Every SHIELD Holder is allocated a page on the Transition Law SHIELD Web portal which they can link to their
own website. The business can also use the SHIELD logo on their website, emails and business stationery.
3) As a SHIELD Holder the business can access Member benefits such as a Legal Helpline for Data Protection queries,
Compliant Marketing advice to keep them safe and legal along with help for responses to Subject Access Requests
and Data Breaches, should one occur.
4) Full details of membership are available in the Membership Booklet HERE.
D) Data Protection Training
1) One of the primary tasks for compliance in GDPR and Data Protection is to ensure all staff members are trained in
the protocols. This is especially important where the staff are customer facing because they can be the recipient of
a Data Protection Statutory Enquiry, known as a Subject Access Request.
2) A Subject Access Request can arrive in any form, including verbal, they are time limited and If the staff don’t know
what it is or how to deal with it, they can cause the business to pass the allotted time for a response and risk being
reported to the ICO or even fined.
3) Transition Law has developed a series of workshop presentations for GDPR training, suitable for business owners
and staff. The presentations are tailored to the bespoke needs of the business and can run from an hour up to a full
weekend of interactive ‘Bootcamp’ activities.
4) Using bespoke packages for staff training demonstrates a ‘Culture of Compliance’ within your business which the
ICO investigators will be looking for should the business become subject to an official Audit following a complaint.
5) Data Breaches under GDPR must follow a self-reporting system. The business is required to send notification of
the Data Breach to the ICO within 72 Hours. The initial report is done Online.
